Mark Gorey

Mr. Gorey originally from Gloucester, Virginia, joined us in 1998 as a teacher at Boothbay Region High School. He received his B.A. degree at Dartmouth College and his Masters degree in Literature in English at the University of Maine at Orono. He also spent one year at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill working on his PhD.
Mr. Gorey enjoys reading, writing, hiking, birdwatching and tennis. He went with the freshmen class this year to see "A Christmas Carol" in Portland and took his AP students to Bowdoin College to do research.
Mr. Gorey teaches English 9, American Studies English, AP English, and this year taught the senior elective block including: Creative Writting, Contemporary Literature and Great Plays.
Amanda Glenn

Ms. Glenn received her B.A. in English from the University of Maine and her M.A. in English from the University of New Hampshire, where she studied with poet Charles Simic and taught in UNH's Freshman English program. As an undergraduate, she also studied in the University of Glasgow's Scottish Literature program. In her first year of graduate school, she was shortlisted for a Fulbright Scholarship.
Ms. Glenn teaches Sophomore English, American Literature, and Senior English. She enjoys writing, reading (primarily the work of old British men), hiking, and travel. She has traveled to the United Kingdom a few times, and loves teaching literature from that part of the world. Part of her Sophomore English class this year involved the production of a brief performance of Beowulf. More performances will certainly follow.
Carol McKenna

Mrs. McKenna lives in Boothbay Harbor and received her B.S. degree. She teaches Freshmen and Sophomore English. Mrs. McKenna has gone on field trips to the Portland Stage Company to view plays and to the Boston International Cultural Fair, learning about different people and ways of living.
The following texts are used in her English classes: Warriner's Grammar, McDougall/Littell Literature Anthology, Myths and Their Meaning, various novels and nonfictional texts, and Writers Inc.
Tanya Hammond

Ms. Hammond is originally from Wiscasset and she graduated from WHS in 1988. She furthered her education through the University of Maine system receiving her B.S. degree in English and Secondary Education from UMF in 1994. She began her career substitute teaching, and full-time teaching at Erskine Academy for 4 years.
In her spare time Ms. Hammond enjoys gardening, music, and cooking. Her travels have taken her to England and Italy.
